You’re Welcome Here

Visiting a church for the first time can feel like a big step, especially when you don’t know quite what to expect. At Asbury Memorial, we want to make that step a little easier by making sure you know from the very beginning that you are welcome here.

Asbury is a creative, inclusive Christian community where questions are welcome, differences are celebrated, and there is room for you to be fully yourself. Whether you’ve been part of a church your entire life, haven’t stepped inside one in years, have had a difficult experience with church in the past, or are simply curious about faith and looking for a community, we’d love to welcome you.

You don’t need to know the words, understand the traditions, dress a certain way, or have your faith figured out before you walk through the door. Come as you are and bring your questions, your story, and your whole self. There’s a place for you here.

    What to Expect on Sunday

Our Sunday worship service begins at 11:00 AM at 1008 E. Henry Street in Savannah, at the corner of Henry and Waters.

When you arrive, you won’t need to worry about knowing where to go or what to do. Come through the doors, find a seat wherever you’re comfortable, and settle in. There will be friendly people nearby who will be glad to help if you have a question, but we also understand that sometimes you simply want to come in, take everything in, and experience worship without a lot of attention.

A typical Sunday includes music, prayer, Scripture, and a message, but creativity has always been an important part of life at Asbury. Depending on the Sunday, you might also experience drama, dance, visual art, special music, laughter, or something else you weren’t expecting to find in church.

You won’t be asked to stand and introduce yourself or be singled out because you’re visiting. Our hope is simply that you feel comfortable, welcomed, and free to experience Asbury at your own pace.

    Worship That’s a Little Different

Faith is meaningful to us, but we don’t believe meaningful worship has to feel stiff or predictable.

For decades, creativity and the arts have helped shape the way Asbury worships and tells the story of faith. Music, storytelling, drama, visual art, humor, thoughtful preaching, and moments of quiet reflection all help us explore how the love of God connects with the lives we’re actually living.

Our worship is rooted in the Christian and Wesleyan traditions while making room for questions, discovery, different perspectives, and the unexpected. You may laugh one Sunday, find yourself deeply moved the next, or leave thinking about something in a way you hadn’t before. Sometimes all three happen before lunch.

    What Should I Wear?

Whatever makes you comfortable. We really mean that.

There’s no dress code at Asbury and no expectation that you need to dress a certain way to worship with us. On Sunday mornings, you’ll see everything from dresses and jackets to jeans and more casual clothes. Some people enjoy dressing up a little for church, while others prefer to keep things simple.

What matters to us isn’t what you’re wearing. It’s that you feel comfortable being yourself and being part of the community.

Wear what feels like you. We’ll just be glad you’re here.

    Children & Families

Children aren’t an interruption to worship at Asbury; they’re an important part of our church family. Families are always welcome to worship together, and we understand that children wiggle, whisper, ask questions, and occasionally make a little noise. That’s part of being a community made up of people of every age.

Nursery care is available for our youngest friends, and we also offer Children’s Church during the service for children in K–3rd grade and 4th–6th grade. Children begin worship in the sanctuary with everyone else and are invited to Children’s Church before the sermon. Parents and caregivers can pick them up from their classrooms after worship.

During the fall and spring, children can also participate in our Creative Kids program on Sunday mornings before worship.

If it’s your family’s first Sunday, there’s no need to figure all of this out ahead of time. When you arrive, just let someone know you’re new and we’ll be happy to show you around, answer your questions, and help your family get comfortable.

    Accessibility

Everyone should be able to participate fully in worship and the life of our community. If you or someone coming with you has an accessibility need, we’d be glad to help make your visit as comfortable as possible.

If you have a question before you come, reach out to us and we’ll be happy to talk with you about what you need and what to expect when you arrive.

    [CONTACT US ABOUT ACCESSIBILITY]

    Asbury Memorial is located at:

    1008 E. Henry Street
    Savannah, GA 31401

Our parking lot is behind the church, with the entrance from Waters Avenue. From there, it’s just a short walk to the church entrance.

We know that one of the most awkward parts of visiting somewhere new can simply be figuring out where to park and which door to use. If you’re unsure when you arrive, don’t worry. There will be someone nearby who will be glad to point you in the right direction.

    What About Communion?

At Asbury, everyone is welcome at the table.

We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month, and you don’t need to be a member of Asbury or belong to a particular denomination to participate. You don’t need to pass a test, have all the right answers, or prove anything before coming forward.

We believe it is God’s table, not ours, and the invitation is open to everyone who wishes to receive Communion. Gluten-free bread is available, and if you would rather remain seated during Communion, that is perfectly okay too.

However you choose to participate, you are welcome.

    Still Have Questions?

    Ask Us Anything

We understand that visiting a new church can bring up all kinds of questions. You may be wondering where to go when you arrive, what the service will be like, whether your children will be comfortable, or whether there really is a place here for someone with your story.

Those are good questions, and you’re always welcome to ask them.

Send us a message before you visit and someone from Asbury will be happy to help. There are no silly questions, no expectations, and no pressure. We simply want you to feel a little more comfortable before you walk through the door.

Want Us to Know You’re Coming?

You never need to register or tell us you’re coming before visiting Asbury. You are always welcome to simply show up on Sunday morning.

But we also know that walking into a new place can be easier when you know someone is expecting you. If that would help, send us your name and let us know when you’re thinking about visiting. We’ll be ready to say hello, help you find your way around, and answer any questions you have.
