D’Addario’s history in woodwinds stems from its 1680 Italian origins in string-making, with the family later immigrating to New York in 1905 to expand the business. The modern D’Addario company was officially founded in 1973, and by acquiring the Rico brand in 2004, they became a major player in the woodwind reed market. The company is still family-owned and operates manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and sources cane from plantations in Argentina and France. Their brands include: Rico, Royal, La Voz, Jazz Select, Reserve, Plasticover, Hemke, and Venn
