An insurance captive is a licensed insurance company that is owned and controlled by the businesses it insures. Instead of paying premiums to a traditional insurer, participants pool risk and share in underwriting results.

ARDAdvantage is an association-sponsored, ARDA-capitalized group captive built through a partnership between Aon, Gregory & Appel, and the American Resort Development Association (ARDA). It's designed specifically for high-performing resorts that aren't being rewarded for strong risk management in the traditional insurance market.

Traditional group captives typically require members to contribute upfront capital and potentially fund losses above the loss fund through assessments. ARDAdvantage is fully funded by ARDA. There's no upfront capital requirement, no member assessments, and no open-ended capital calls.

The resort and timeshare industry has:
  • Predictable, recurring operations
  • Large, diversified property portfolios
  • Shared risk profiles across owners/operators
  • Strong data on claims trends (property, liability, weather events)
This makes it ideal for a structured risk financing solution.
  • Cost Stability: Reduced volatility vs. commercial market cycles
  • Potential Profit Participation: Underwriting gains returned to members
  • Tailored Coverage: Policies designed specifically for resort operations
  • Improved Risk Management: Incentivizes best practices across members
  • Access to Reinsurance Markets: Often at more favorable terms
Typical coverages include:
  • Property insurance (including catastrophe layers)
  • General liability
  • Cyber liability
  • Business interruption
  • Workers’ compensation (in some structures)
  • Specialty risks unique to resorts (amenities, guest activities, HOA exposures)
  • Resort developers and operators
  • Vacation ownership companies
  • Hospitality groups with significant resort exposure
  • Affiliated entities (management companies, HOAs, etc.)

Aon is a global professional services and insurance brokerage firm, serving as the lead risk partner and preferred captive partner for the ARDAdvantage program. Gregory & Appel is an insurance brokerage firm that works alongside Aon as a strategic risk partner, helping guide resorts through the program from initial review to placement. Together, they bring the underwriting, placement, and risk management expertise behind ARDAdvantage's structure.

Participation begins with a no-obligation review of your current property program and loss history. This review helps determine whether your resort is likely to qualify and how an ARDA captive-backed placement compares to your current insurer and other market options.

Members gain access to specialized risk management and claims support. Participation also connects you to a geographically diverse portfolio of best-in-class resorts, which supports stronger pricing, capacity, and long-term market stability for everyone in the program.
