Opposing Force Battalion
Areas of Operations: Forsyth County and Fulton County, the Entire State of Georgia
An Opposing Force is a military unit tasked with representing enemy tactics for training purposes in war game scenarios.
Opposing Force (OPFOR BATTALION or shortly OPFOR) is a separate unit of the State Defense Force established in 2018 to support Georgia Army National Guard Soldiers during the Premobilization Training.
The OPFOR Soldiers conduct direct support operations to the Georgia Army National Guard 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (48 IBCT). Soldiers drill monthly and participate in annual training in armories in Forsyth County and Fulton County, Georgia, as well as other military installations throughout Georgia.
OPFOR capability:
Comprised of trained, physically and mentally strong infantrymen that are available on short notice. Able to simulate close-to-reality war game scenarios for exercising troops.
Emulate the enemies offense and defense tactics as Conventional Warfare elements for training purposes.
Assist in readiness training for Conventional and Irregular Warfare within Potential Operational Environments.
OPFOR is composed of the following units:
OPFOR Headquarters (Husky) OPFOR HQ, located in Cumming, GA – the HQ functions for our operations, intelligence, personnel and recruiting. The OPFOR HQ is attached to the HQ (Hunter) of the 3rd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
OPFOR A Company (Apache) is attached to the following GA Army National Guard’s Companies of the 3rd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team:
OPFOR B Company (Blackfoot) is attached to the following GA Army National Guard’s Companies of the 3d Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team:
B Company (Baker), stationed in Atlanta, GA
C Company (Charlie), stationed in Atlanta, GA
All OPFOR Battalion Soldiers also support other missions when called, including Domestic Operations (DOMOPS) and Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA).
