Why Rainbow?

Rainbow Prepares The Girls Of Today To Be The Leaders Of Tomorrow

In today’s working world, effective communication skills are essential to career success. Rainbow is designed to teach girls leadership. The International Order of Rainbow for Girls encourages members to hold leadership positions on the local level, making them responsible for the planning and executing of the programs and activities for their assembly, and for conducting business meetings. This helps them develop valuable business skills such as parliamentary procedures (using Robert’s Rules), project management, budgeting, teamwork, organizational skills, problem solving, delegation of tasks, and marketing. Leadership also helps girls’ interpersonal communication and acceptance of each individual member’s strengths and differences. Every girl has the opportunity to advance to leadership positions on a statewide level. Every member in the Assembly holds an office. Each girl learns her station’s lesson and then presents it at meetings.

Rainbow teaches girls how to dress and conduct themselves in meetings with poise and grace. Girls build confidence in themselves and their public speaking skills by presenting their lesson and by speaking to people of all ages through interactions with their peers, adults, and members of their communities through charitable deeds. Charity and Service are the cornerstones of Rainbow and Rainbow community service projects allow girls to network and meet with professionals for solid career guidance. Rainbow offers girls the opportunity to showcase their individual talents, the opportunity to travel and develop lasting friendships with young women just like themselves all over our state and even the country. The best part is, girls have so much fun that they won’t even realize they have built these skills until one day when they need to use them.

How Does Rainbow Help With High School And College?

With college entrance requirements becoming increasingly competitive, students need to fit a more diverse profile. Getting good grades and scoring high on the SAT are not the only things colleges review. They want to see students who take the initiative to be involved in their community and invest their spare time in volunteering. Volunteer hours can often be applied to Bright Futures Scholarship requirements and our organization offers many additional Scholarship opportunities.

Having Rainbow on your College or Business resume demonstrates that you are hardworking, well rounded, work well with a team, have time management skills, can handle multiple responsibilities and that you can successfully adapt to the workplace environment.

RAINBOW NURTURES CONFIDENCE AND SELF ESTEEM

Not only does Rainbow provide girls with a sense of belonging and usefulness, but it also builds confidence. Research shows that students who are confident leaders have higher self-esteem, are better equipped to resist negative peer pressure, and leave dangerous situations. The lessons of Rainbow teach and encourage good morals and values, to be productive people, engaged in their community.

Participating actively in the various activities of a youth organization helps girls discover their strengths and passions, as well as know their weaknesses and what they do not like. This knowledge of themselves stays with them forever and goes a long way in helping them make important decisions throughout their lifetime. The more assets a girl experiences in her life, the more likely she is to make good choices and less likely she is to engage in destructive behaviors.
